Suspect in Deadly House Fire May Head for Mexico

LILBURN, GA -- Police say the man facing felony murder charges for three young children who perished in a Lilburn house fire may be heading to Mexico.

Ivan Gonzalez has been charged with three counts of murder, and one count each of arson and drug trafficking.

One-year-old Stacy Brito, 3-year-old Ivan Guevara and 4-year-old Isaac Guevara were trapped in a second floor bedroom when fire broke out in a home on Spring Mill Drive in Lilburn on Thursday.

The children were pulled from the burning home before firefighters arrived and taken to local hospitals, but all three died from their injuries.

In a Friday morning news conference, Gwinnett County Police said the fire was sparked by chemicals used to make methamphetamine, which were in the kitchen where the fire started. Investigators said they also discovered evidence of a meth lab inside the house.

Meth Products Found After 3 Year Old Dies In Fire

LILBURN, GA -- Gwinnett County Police have taken over an investigation into a house fire in Lilburn that killed a three year old boy. Gwinnett County fire fighters who responded to the fire on Spring Mill Drive found drugs and materials to make drugs in the home after the fire was extinguished.

Corporal Jake Smith said homicide investigators are investigating the fire. "There's an investigation into cruelty to children or child neglect," he said.

There were three children trapped inside the home when the fire started. Authorities are not identifying the surviving children but described them as a one year old girl and a four year old boy. They are at Grady Memorial Hospital in very critical condition.

Corporal Smith said investigators found evidence of meth processing inside the home. "It wasn't a meth lab but there is something to do with drugs going on in there and there's been some meth discovered inside," he said.
