Family Promise of Gwinnett Celebrates 6 Years of serving homeless families

Family Promise of Gwinnett County (www.familypromisegwinnett.org), one of 163 other affiliates of Family Promise (www.familypromise.org), celebrates 6 years of providing services and support to homeless families in Gwinnett County, seeking to end homelessness, one family at a time.

Recent news reports in the Atlanta area have highlighted the homelessness situation in our area. Family Promise affiliates across the country respond to this situation providing hope and help to families in transition. In Gwinnett, participating families stay in our network an average of 74 days, with 82% leaving with employment and housing. Through the utilization of local congregations, their facilities and their volunteers, as well as a small staff of its own, Family Promise houses, feeds, and provides case management services for up to four families at a time.

ATLANTA – Ready to frolic with the rich and famous, be fabulous and have a fun with fashion? Check out the festivities for Atlanta’s second annual “Fashions Night Out” event. Atlanta is, once again, participating as an official host city for the annual celebration.

Fashion’s Night Out is a celebration incepted in 2009 in New York as an “after-hours shopping extravaganza”. The event is designed to allow celebrities and designers the opportunity to mingle with shoppers and participate in exclusive events.

This event does more than celebrate fashion; it enables designers to bring iconic fashion staples like the Diane von Furstenburg “wrap dress” to your front door. Showcasing the DVF fall collection, popular Paces Ferry boutique, Sandpiper will be holding a patio party on Thursday night.

And if you take a trip downtown, you have a shot at being a celebrity for a day.

ATLANTAThe Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech 2011-12 season continues with high energy chamber music ensemble PROJECT Trio on Friday, September 30 at 12 p.m and 5 p.m.   Both shows are free and will be held outdoors in the amphitheater to the right of the Ferst Center, weather permitting.

PROJECT Trio is comprised of three virtuosic composer/performers from Brooklyn, NY.

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

This weekend is the first week for Cirque du Soleil’s new show, Dralion, the show fuses together 3000-year-old Chinese acrobatic arts and the Cirque du Soleil approach. The show’s name is derived from dragons which symbolize the East and the lion which symbolizing the West. Dralion tickets are available at Ticketmaster and the show will be held at Philips Arena. Philips Arena is located at One Philips Drive in Atlanta.

Woodruff Park will play host to the German Bierfest Atlanta on Saturday. This is the eighth festival of its type and it will celebrate the greatness of German beer in a family environment. The festival will feature German food, activities, music and fun. The festival will be held from 2:00 p.m.
