Adopt a Golden Atlanta announces Seniors for Seniors Program

Adopt a Golden Atlanta (AGA) is initiating a Seniors for Seniors program, providing a way for seniors age 65 and older to adopt senior golden retrievers (10 years and older) by waiving the adoption fee or facilitating a permanent foster home arrangement.

In the last few years, Adopt a Golden Atlanta, the largest golden retriever rescue in the Southeast and fourth largest in the US, has seen an increase in the number of older dogs coming into the program – either due to passing of their owner or because of economic reasons.  “We’ve seen a four-fold increase in the number of seniors we’ve taken in,” reports Lauren Genkinger, AGA’s president and founder.  “So we’re announcing this program that is a win-win for both seniors involved – the human and the golden retriever,” she continues.

Clean-up Day is a great reason to clean out garages and basements – throw out anything that’s not a hazardous material. (Open to City of Norcross residents only – new location – the Public Works Barn located at 345 Lively St.) 8am to 3pm. This event is free.

Electronics Recycling means pack rats can get rid of old cell phones, computers and keyboards without guilt!

The White House Visits Powertalk

The White House Visits Powertalk

It was an exciting day on Powertalk w/ Lorraine Jacques White today, as Valerie B. Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, stopped by to chat about the American Jobs Act and how it will impact and benefit African Americans.

As you know, the African American community is the one group that has been hardest hit by the economic crisis, and despite the fact that private sector jobs have been added over the past 19 months, still, too many Americans are without work. Valerie Jarrett had a few words to say that helped to clear up the issue and let the Powertalk audience know where we’ll go from here.

The GPCA Challenges Other Associations to Join the Fight to Cure Blood Cancer

Valera Jessee, Executive Director of the Georgia Pest Control Association (GPCA) challenges other non-profit associations to come together in support of the Light The Night Walk. "The Light The Night Walk brings together members in a friendly competition and supports the communities from which we draw our livelihood", said Jessee.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) relies heavily on funds raised through the GPCA. Since 2004, member companies of the GPCA have raised over $708,000. The goal this year is to raise another $100,000. What is unique about this partnership is that companies competing to eliminate your pest problem are joining forces for the common good.
