BEST SPOTS: Metro Atlanta Fall Festivals

BEST SPOTS: Metro Atlanta Fall Festivals

ATLANTA – Fall is approaching and ‘tis the season for fall festivals. Metro Atlanta offers a festival for whatever tickles your fancy; whether it be food, music or fun you can find it during the autumn season in the city. For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we've compiled a list of the best fall festival in Atlanta, this year.

Come to Atlanta for one of the largest gay celebrations in the United States. The Atlanta Pride Festival will celebrate their 41st year, this October. Atlanta Pride started in the summer of 1970, a year after the Stonewall Riots in New York City. According to their website, the main purpose of the APC is to “promote unity, visibility and self-esteem among lesbian, gay men, bisexuals and transgender persons”. The festival features events, like: the Official Atlanta Pride Kickoff Party, the Tran March, Pride parade and Pride Children’s event.

BEST SPOTS: Labor Day Staycations

BEST SPOTS: Labor Day Staycations

ATLANTA -- Due to recent instability in the United States economy, many people are opting to stay in town for the Labor Day holiday. Vacations like these or “staycations” have become more popular since high oil prices have forced gas prices to top out at, sometimes, more than $4.00 per gallon.

According to an article by CNNMoney, the steady decline of gas prices could result in an increase in “last-minute” holiday travel. However, for those who want to stay in town and get their most “bang for their buck” there are plenty of choices near the Atlanta area to "take a load off" and relax.

Some Atlantans will choose to head out to the lake, Laek Lanier, for their Labor Day vacation.

While some departments already have active volunteer programs in place, the comprehensive Volunteer Gwinnett program was developed in response to an Engage Gwinnett committee recommendation to engage residents in volunteer activities to support government operations and potentially save money.

Gwinnett resident and 12Stone Church CFO Norwood Davis served on the Engage Gwinnett committee and championed the idea of a countywide volunteer program. Davis said, “Volunteer Gwinnett gives residents an opportunity to serve one another for the common good.
