LILBURN, Ga. -- Lilburn has expanded its global connections by becoming the sister city of Suhareka, Kosovo.

More than 20 dignitaries from both Kosovo and Gwinnett County recently came together for a special dinner honoring the partnership.

"I am delighted that the city of Lilburn and Suhareka have joined as sister cities," Lilburn Mayor Johnny Crist said in a statement. "Our cities will strengthen each other through the exchange of ideas and the relationships formed through this new bond."

Suhareka Mayor Blerim Kuqi will be in Lilburn through Wednesday with a team of educators, medical professionals and government officials from his country. Crist plans to bring a group of prominent Lilburn citizens with him when he visits Kosovo in September.
