Runoff Election Today: Who's on your Ballot?
News

ATLANTA -- It is election day today with two statewide judicial runoffs and several local contests on the ballot.

The runoff involves races in which no one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote during the general election, so the top two vote-getters have to try to get out the vote, again.

In the race for the Georgia Supreme Court, David Nahmias received 48 percent of the vote on November 2nd.

He's a former U.S. Attorney who was appointed to the court by Governor Sonny Perdue more than a year ago.

"It really boils down to qualifications," Nahmias said. "In the state bar poll, 95 percent of the lawyers who said they knew me said I was qualified or well qualified to serve on the court."

His challenger, Tammy Lynn Adkins, captured 35 percent of the vote in the general election.

Adkins has practiced family law for the past 18 years.

"It's two completely different backgrounds," Adkins said. "I've represented ordinary Georgians for all walks of life for 18 years. He's worked for the federal government."

This is a nonpartisan race for the state's highest court, which makes decisions that impact all of us.

Along with the race for the State Supreme Court, there's a runoff for the Georgia Court of Appeals between Toni Davis and Chris McFadden.

Those are the two races will be on everyone's ballot, but there are also local races for superior courts and school boards across metro Atlanta.
