Krispy Kreme offering free doughnuts on June 7

(WXIA) -- June 7 is National Doughnut Day, and Krispy Kreme is celebrating by offering one free doughnut to every customer.

Krispy Kreme customers can choose a free doughnut of any variety.

National Doughnut Day is held the first Friday in June. It was established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to raise money for Americans hit hard by the Great Depression. Learn more at nationaldoughnutday2013.com.

Gwinnett Tech hosting plant sale

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Horticulture students at Gwinnett Technical College will host a plant sale later this month and an edible sale next month.

The plant sale will be Apr. 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college's greenhouse.

Plenty of plant types will be sold, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs and house plants.

The edible sale will be May 7-9 and will feature fruits, vegetables and herbs.

"I know every year we say the plant sale gets better, but the greenhouse is spectacular. The students have pulled together the best looking and the healthiest plants ever," Gwinnett Tech horticulture program director Aaron Poulsen said in a statement. "There are more varieties than we have time to list, and I think our supporters will be pleased."

Cash and checks will be accepted at the sale; those wishing to use credit and debit cards will have to pay in the school's business office.

RaceTrac hiring for Free Coffee Week

ATLANTA -- RaceTrac is hiring more than 100 temporary employees for the holidays.

The Cobb County-based chain of gas stations will hire two extra people at 66 Georgia locations to help promote Free Coffee Week.

Employees will hold signs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Dec. 17-21. Sign holders must be at least 18 years old and clean cut.

Burlington Coat Factory to open in Lilburn

LILBURN, Ga. -- A brand new Burlington Coat Factory will open in Lilburn Friday.

The store, which is located in the Killian Hill Village shopping center on Stone Mountain Highway, will hold a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.

Representatives for the department store chain's philanthropic program, Burlington Gives Back, will be on hand to introduce the non-profit to Gwinnett. Burlington Gives Back donates new clothing to local charities through a partnership with Fashion Delivers.

Walmart layaway is back, better this year

ATLANTA -- The Walmart layaway program will return just in time for Christmas, the company announced Monday.

This year's layaway will have plenty of new features, including more eligible items and a $15 Walmart gift card for those who pay for their entire layaway purchase.

Layaway begins on Sept. 16. Customers who like their local Walmart stores on Facebook beginning Aug. 28 will be able to start their layaway early, on Sept. 14.

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia is offering parents a tax holiday on back-to-school goods for the first time since 2009.

The state will temporarily suspend its collection of the sales tax on Aug. 10-11 for general school supplies, some clothing and computers and computer accessories.
