4 Berry grads join Teach for America

ROME, Ga. -- Four recent graduates of Berry College have been selected for the prestigious Teach for America program.

Teach for America has also named Berry a focus school for the fall, with the hope of recruiting good candidates from the college.

The program works in partnership with communities across the country to expand educational opportunities for children facing poverty. Teach for America recruits recent college graduates to spend two years teaching in high-need areas. More than 10,000 people will teach in 46 areas, including Detroit, Memphis, New Mexico and the Mississippi Delta region, this fall.

This year's Berry College recruits include:

Chauncey Brown
Hometown: Hermitage, Penn.
Major: Middle grades
Will teach in the Mississippi Delta region

Alisha Dosani
Hometown: Lilburn, Ga.
Major: Marketing
Will teach in Oklahoma

Beth Ann Dunagan
Hometown: Cleveland, Ga.
Major: Government
Will teach in Alabama

Alyssa Nobles
Hometown: Rome, Ga.
Major: Early childhood education
Will teach in the Mississippi Delta region

"We are excited to be focusing our efforts on Berry College this year," Teach for America recruitment director Jen Granger said in a statement. "We've seen great leadership coming out of Berry and we hope that by ramping up our recruitment efforts, we can strengthen our partnership and bring more strong classroom teachers in front of our students."
