Beautiful weekend weather means roadwork in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- This weekend is going to be beautiful, weather-wise, and there will be plenty of activities to enjoy.

WEEKEND GUIDE | What to do in Atlanta

But pretty days (and nights) come with a snag for drivers: weekend roadwork.

A major project begins Friday night in Cobb County. North Marietta Parkway will be closed between Cobb Parkway and Wallace Road for five consecutive weekends.

The road will be open during the week, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

More work will take place on Interstate 75 south, also in Cobb County. Crews will make repairs in the two left lanes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.

The affected area is between Chastain Road in Kennesaw and Dickson Road in Marietta.

"Look for an alternate route is the best advice I can give," GDOT Metro District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle said when asked how to handle the closures.

Work will also continue on the I-85/Georgia 400 Interchange project, which means drivers can expect delays on Buford Highway, Sidney Marcus Boulevard, Cheshire Bridge Road and Lenox Road.
