Ga. Connections Academy accepting students for 2014-15 school year

(WXIA) -- A few seats are still available at Georgia Connections Academy for the 2014-15 school year.

Georgia Connections Academy is a virtual K-12 public school that allows students to learn at their own pace. It is fully accredited and open to all school-age Georgia children.

"We are enrolling 1,000 additional students across all grade levels for the coming academic year," lead principal Heather Robinson said in a release. "We have a waiting list as we open enrollment, so we encourage parents to get their applications in now."

Georgia Connections Academy will hold a number of information sessions across the state for parents who want to know more. Additional enrollment information is available at connectionsacademy.com/georgia-virtual-school.

(WXIA) -- IHOP will once again participate in the National Pancake Day promotion on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

Customers who visit any IHOP location on National Pancake Day will be treated to a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In exchange, the restaurant chain encourages diners to leave a donation for a number of charities, namely the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Beginning this Saturday, Feb. 1, IHOP will collect donations for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Customers can buy paper balloons that cost either $1 or $5. The balloons will hang in IHOP restaurants through National Pancake Day.

Anyone who purchases a $5 balloon will receive a $5 IHOP coupon to use on a future visit.

Look out for runners on Ga. 400

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.

SafetySmart Lilburn to hold rabies clinic

LILBURN, Ga. -- Lilburn pet owners are invited to attend a rabies clinic at City Hall this weekend.

The clinic, which is sponsored by SafetySmart Lilburn, will be Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dr. Star Gregory from Zutilla Veterinary Housecalls will give $10 rabies shots to all pets in attendance. Dogs must be on a leash, while cats must be controlled.

Lilburn City Hall is located at 76 Main Street.

Lilburn Daze celebrates 40 years

LILBURN, Ga. -- This year's Lilburn Daze Arts & Crafts Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The annual event offers plenty of family-friendly outdoor fall fun.

Camp Woof to host vaccination clinic

Camp Woof to host vaccination clinic

NORCROSS, Ga. -- The Georgia SPCA will hold a low-cost vaccination clinic for pet owners this weekend.

The clinic will be Saturday, May 18 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Camp Woof in Norcross.

Rabies, distemper and bordetella shots will be only $10 each. Heartworm testing for dogs and microchipping for all pets will be $25.

Camp Woof is located at 4590 Buford Highway.
