CUMMING, Ga. – The ALS Run for Life 5K to end Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease will be held at The Avenue Forsyth in Georgia.

The run was founded to honor Jon Blais, the only person with ALS to finish the Ironman triathlon. Every year, the event is held in to raise money for research for a cure. The race has raised over $50,000 in four years and, according to race organizers, has become a favorite among Metro Atlanta runners.

Every day in the US, about 15 people are diagnosed with ALS and life expectancy is about two to five years from the original diagnosis. ALS cripples physical functions, like the ability to move, speak and swallow; however, the mind stays sharp.

The race will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 7:00 a.m. This event will feature a one mile fun run starting at 9:00 a.m. Runners will begin the 3.1 mile course by circling the perimeter of The Avenue and them will finish in the front of the race expo. Everyone is welcomed.

Participants will receive a t-shirt, post race refreshments, and enjoy great music as they “Celebrate Life and Imagine a Cure.” Sign up at www.alsrunforlife5k.com.
