Hosea Feed the Hungry estimates it will feed 10,000 families during its MLK Day meal, which began at 10 a.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

More than 3,000 people rolled up their sleeves to serve with Hands On Atlanta, beautifying such areas as City of Refuge and Chastain Memorial Park.

Georgia Power employees spent the day volunteering at Lutheran Towers, a housing development for seniors in Midtown Atlanta. They also assembled, labeled and distributed collection boxes at Rockdale Emergency Relief in Conyers.

Random Acts of Kindness: Mott Family

Random Acts of Kindness: Mott Family

LILBURN, Ga. -- Today's random act of kindness is for the Mott family.

A year ago, the Motts' lives changed forever. Their daughter Anna's brain tumor diagnosis changed everything, and ever since they've shown faith, strength, and determination to continue throughout their tough journey.

Recently Anna's mother Melissa mentioned on Facebook about how her family desperately needed a new blender. Anna's medical condition restricts her diet, and having a blender would make it easier for Melissa to cook meals Anna could eat.

However, because of medical bills and everyday expenses, Melissa couldn't afford to buy one on her own. Thanks to a tip from a family friend, 11Alive reached out to Vitamix, who make high performance blenders.

Thanks to the generous donation, 11Alive was able to present this family with a special random act of kindness.

Police department donates bicycles to Goodwill

LILBURN, Ga. -- The Lilburn Police Department recently donated 11 bicycles to Goodwill for needy families to receive and enjoy.

All 11 bikes were turned in to the police department. They were donated only after their owners could not be located.

"It was an easy decision for me to offer these donations to those who would otherwise miss the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of cycling," Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley said in a statement. He added that his other options were to destroy the bikes or sell them for scrap metal.

According to CNNMoney:

Families love Powder Springs's charming downtown and pleasant quality of life. They also appreciate its reasonable real estate prices: Three-bedroom homes are on the market here for $75,000 or less.
