LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Gwinnett County commissioners will soon meet publicly with consultants to consider future plans for an airport in Lawrenceville, an issue which has been controversial in recent months.
Commissioners are scheduled to meet Tuesday with IMG, a firm chosen because of its expertise in airport operations to help guide the privatization considerations.
Officials have said that privatization could mean keeping Lawrenceville's Briscoe Field a general aviation airport full of flight schools and small aircraft, or it could open the airport to commercial jets.
Some residents oppose the idea of turning the site into a commercial airport and have expressed concerns about increased traffic and other issues.
