Lilburn Art Alliance to hold first art exhibition

LILBURN, Ga. -- The Lilburn Art Alliance recently began in Gwinnett County, to spread the word of public arts projects throughout the community. 

Nikki Young, Public Relations Manager for the City of Lilburn said that the group creates works of public art, supports local artists and creates studio space in Old Town Lilburn. 

In carrying out their mission, they will hold the first art exhibition of Saturday, January 12 from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. It will be located at 107 Main Street, where Sprig restaurant will provide small bites and wine. Music on Main will provide entertainment, according to Young. 

Some of the local artists who will display their work are Susan Boudreaux, Diana Dice, Teri Enfield, Alan Harp, Gwendolyn McDonald, David Raderstorf and Peggy Sullens.

Lilburn teacher honored by Woodruff Arts Center

LILBURN, Ga. -- A middle school teacher from Gwinnett County has been named the 2012 Woodruff Arts Center Visual Arts Educator.

Dr. Aimee Burgamy teaches at Trickum Middle School in Lilburn. She was honored as part of the Woodruff Salutes Georgia Arts in Education Leaders program.

Burgamy won the award for her efforts to create whole-school art projects. She is also credited with making art relevant for middle school students and for advancing the cause of arts education.

The Visual Arts Educator prize comes with $500 for Burgamy's professional development and a $2,500 award, which she plans to put toward Trickum's outdoor theater.

Burgamy is a beloved and much-honored teacher. She was named Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year in 2009.

As part of a Green Halloween, GEHC will be hosting a costume donation and swap. During the month of October, drop off old costumes, masks, and accessories in the GEHC lobby. The costume swap event will kick off on October 13th, from 1-4pm, and continue each Saturday, from 10am-4pm, until Halloween.
