News, Transportation

All the roads in Metro Atlanta are open today. You need to pack a huge load of patience while you get going though. There are many delays out there. For details on particular routes, check http://11alive.com/traffic.

The left lanes have ice in them. Stay out of those left lanes. Assume that all overpasses have ice on them; many have glaze ice that you will not be able to see until you are on them.

ALL of the on and off ramps have ice in them. Approach them slowly and carefully. If you speed onto an offramp or try to turn suddenly, you will slide and crash.

All have some ice on them. Most with three lanes ordinarily are down to two; most with two lanes regularly, are down to one lane.

ALL left turn lanes have ice in them. If you sail into those left lanes suddenly or like normal, you WILL slide and lose control of your car. Approach all lights slowly, as cross traffic may not be able to stop.

None of those streets are being treated; The cities, counties and GDOT all have to concentrate on main roads.

As a result ALL of them have ice on them.

You will have to drive slowly and gently. Allow a lot of time and space before stopping at stop signs/lights. Be gentle when you step on the gas to pull off there.

Don't assume that someone on a cross street will automatically stop. They may not be able to.

Above all and most of all, be careful! This is the first day out for most, and delays will be everywhere. Be patient -- you will get there, just not as fast as you'd like.
